Critical Updates

Original Presentation Date: August 11th, 2021

Presented by Steve Barnes of AquaStar

The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Act changed on May 24, 2021. This webinar provides an overview of the changes to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Standard, ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017 that are impacting new and existing suction outlet fitting assemblies. The role and responsibilities of the Registered Design Professional changed significantly, removing their authority over field-built sumps protected by manufactured drain covers. Changes also add new certification requirements for large area grate-type outlets designed and certified, (or renewed) by a P.E. or Architect.

1:00 hour -Watershape University is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 CEUs for this program.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Compare key policy differences between the predecessor standard ASME/ANSI A112.19.8 2007 and the successor standard ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017.
  2. Identify VGBA-2017 compatible drain covers for use over new and existing sumps based on sump depth, pipe size, pipe orientation, installation location, and the system's maximum operating flow rate.
  3. Review the impact of Entrapping Force Criterion changes that lower previous VGBA flow ratings for all large area grates certified by Registered Design Professionals.
  4. Discuss new sump certification requirements that preempt the need for, and authority of, a PE sign-off; changes that apply to both manufactured and field-built sumps.
